The Good, The Bad & The Ugly

THE GOOD, THE BAD & THE UGLY

In this post i will be talking about "The good, the bad and the ugly" parts of the making of our A2 media short film. In other words i will be revealing what went well, what didn't go so well and what challenged we faced as a group.

During planning and research stages a lot of time was devoted to finding ideal locations and envisioning perfect settings for scenes of our film. Due to the time and effort spent, over the duration of production 'location' did not arise as an issue as all the venues were pre-booked and prepared.
I believe a benefit of having your location and set organised and prepared is that on the days of production there are less things to worry about, allowing you to put all your attention and focus on creating a great media product.
- A negative of not having your location and set organised is that in the process of trying to find a back or or relocating, valuable filming time is being wasted. Learning from my AS media 'preliminary task' and 'opening sequence' i have learnt, filming time must be used wisely in order to produce the best media product possible.

As a group i believe i biggest downfall did not occur during planning, production, editing or even the promotion of our media product. It began from the research of our media product. From the beginning i believe our group got carried away with what great and impressive things we could create, however we failed to realise what would make our action comedy successful. Simplicity. Our film was too complicated to execute on a small budget and in the small space of time that we were given. So for this reason 'the bad' of our Media product had to be that it was over complicated.
*If given the opportunity to change aspects of our film i would adjust the story line back to our original script where it was less complicated, fast paced and effective.
*Another thing that i would change if given the chance to is the size of our cast as having a large cast manipulated our plot as we felt it was a necessity to include extra unnecessary ideas in order to include all characters when really it was not necessary.

While filming our Media product our cast began to loose concentration making it hard for them to cooperate with the needs we required. I order not to fall behind in our shooting schedule we decided to attempt to speed up the process of filming when really all we did was rush certain shots, which acted as a domino effect. During the process of editing we were left with a shortage of camera angles forcing us to re-plan the layout of aspects of our short film. So despite this challenge that our group faced we managed to amend this issue by take extra shots that we had taken else where and used them to help us edit the scenes were shots were missing. Simply for the reasons i have just stated, that has to be the ugly of our film.

  • From that experience i have learnt that taking spare shots and different scenes is essential, as when it comes to editing they may come in handy.
  • Also another thing i have learnt from this experience is, make sure that all cast members are briefed before the process of production begins in order to ensure they can all be committed to filming your Media product.
